True Story

ETHICAL FASHION

At TrueStory, fashion happens in family. In partnership with NextStep micro loan program, and supportive local businesses, each women’s cooperative receives sewing machines, training, and employment in crafting original hand-made garments.

Clustered with a network of non-profits, local businesses, and social entrepreneurs, TrueStory is committed to working together in community for social change and investing in the value and dignity of every individual. Our practices, textiles, and shipping are conscientious of caring for the earth and the communities it hosts.

The Mission

While many women face excruciating life circumstances that have told them over and over again that they have no value and no voice, TrueStory seeks to change the narrative, providing meaningful jobs to women and inviting them in a journey of growth and renewed hope together.

Each women’s cooperative receives training and employment in crafting original hand-made garments while our direct investment micro-enterprise model allows a community of women to work and grow together through creative workshops, listening circles and a unique personal growth journey guided by a research-based storytelling and arts curriculum.

The Approach

Designed, crafted, cultivated, and journeyed together as a community of friends, TrueStory challenges what modern fashion can be while providing hope and substance to women who want to shape and grow their own hearts, and in doing so, shape the heart of the world.

TrueStory leads women to practice the arts of virtue, wit, modesty, and wisdom—all the while creating beauty and embodying love.

The Philosophy

TrueStory recognizes that the greatest resource of all is the human spirit. Drawing directly from the local body of cultural and aesthetic sensibilities they tell a story whose beauty is not only visual, but also has a socioeconomic, environmental, and sustainable impact.
